It's possible your charging system is kinda working Check voltage at the battery terminals at various rpms, it should peak at 14 5 ish or a bit more, the klr charging system is pretty aggressive, that's why it dries out batteries so fast

ohm meter checks there should be 3 yellow wires from the alternator to the regulator rectifier pull the connector apart and check them on the alternator side they should check very low ohms between each pair none should indicate continuity to ground

Maybe Remove the battery terminals, use wire brush on battery terminals cable terminals and then use a Socket wrench to final tighten the terminal bolts, not just a screw driver!

Sounds like the battery to me because after charging it, you should be able to start the bike Jump it off and maybe check the voltage from the leads of the KLR, with the batt disconnected
