sav files are usually in-game saves, and assuming it’s actually in the correct format for mgba, all you should need to do is rename the sav to match the rom you are using and make sure they are in the same folder

Run the conversion tool from requirement 4 to convert the sav files to json Open the OldLevel sav json file created (it will probably be very large, but Notepad++ worked for me) and search for the first 8 chars from step 5 If it doesn't find those characters, try again with an even older backup (if you don't have one, you're probably SOL)
